Ways to Take CBD

Ways to Take CBD

To say that cannabidiol is popular may be the understatement of the year. Although the extract, more commonly known as CBD, was initially discovered in 1940 by chemist Roger Adams, its use has exploded in recent years. CBD oil has created a reputation as an all-healing potion due to the variety of symptoms that it has been shown to treat, including joint issues associated with arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, anxiety and depression, and even seizures and epilepsy. But as the popularity of CBD grows, so do the needs of those looking to take advantage of it. Let’s take a look at why CBD is so sought-after, the different options for enjoying it, and what to look for when selecting a CBD product for yourself.

Back to Basics

Aside from making people feel better, why is CBD so impressive? For advocates of the benefits of cannabis, cannabidiol offers a middle ground for those looking to experience the benefits of the extract without the sensation that comes with more traditional cannabis use. Cannabinoids are a type of compound that, when introduced to our bodies, interact with various nerve receptors in positive ways. Both cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol are examples of cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant.

Whether or not you recognize the name, tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, has played a significant role in the development of CBD. THC is the compound that produces the psychoactive effects, or high, typically associated with marijuana use. The lack of CBD’s psychoactive impact is not only one of the critical differences between it and THC, but it’s also one of the significant points that users promote when discussing the extract’s benefits.

Tell Me More

Until the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, all forms of cannabis were illegal, including hemp. Though the new legislation still defines hemp as the cannabis plant, it notes that hemp cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. According to section 10113 of the Farm Bill, any cannabis plant over the legal limit of THC is defined as non-hemp cannabis, also known as marijuana.

Though the passage of the Farm Bill is a vast improvement over previous legislation, there are two essential items to note: it overlooks the positive medicinal uses of THC and the belief that the bill allows for free reign of hemp production.

Another major deciding factor that has paved the way for the increased availability of hemp and CBD is the Federal Drug Administration’s approval of Epidiolex in June of 2018. The drug, an oral solution of cannabidiol, treats seizures associated with two rare and severe forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. Epidiolex is the first FDA-approved substance derived from marijuana or cannabis. According to the FDA’s release, “CBD does not cause intoxication or euphoria (the “high”) that comes from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).”

The Silver Lining

Both CBD and THC affect the body’s endocannabinoid system, including the impacting issues with chronic pain, sleep, and the immune system. However, for those looking to treat chronic pain and nausea, such as those who have cancer or who are dealing with the after-effects of chemo, THC is an excellent alternative to more traditional treatments. Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s check out the various ways you can take advantage of these potent extracts!

CBD Oil & Tinctures

In the past, tinctures were created using alcohol as the base. However, today’s products are more likely to be made with coconut or MCT oil to be more easily absorbed into the body. CBD oil and tinctures are perfect choices for people who struggle with taking pills. Instead of being swallowed, the CBD oil or tincture is absorbed directly through tiny capillaries in the mouth. Though it may take up to an hour to feel the full effects of the extracts, tinctures and CBD oil can provide symptom relief for up to eight hours. Another perk of using a CBD oil tincture is the versatility. You can customize your dose to take as much or as little CBD as you would like, making it perfect for people who are just getting started with cannabidiol.

Another perk of CBD oil is its ability to be flavored. Especially if you’re planning on placing it under your tongue, it should probably taste like something pleasant. Koi CBD makes an expansive variety of flavors, including Watermelon Green Apple Sour, Strawberry Milkshake, Pink Lemonade, Fuji Apple, Vanilla Caramel Custard, Raspberry Iced Tea, Blue Raspberry Dragon Fruit, and Tropical Pop. The brand also offers a flavorless option for those looking to incorporate the CBD oil into their food or drink.

CBD Edibles

Another popular way to enjoy cannabidiol is through ingesting CBD edibles. If you’re looking for something easy, pre-measured, and discreet, CBD edibles may be the perfect solution for you. Companies and restaurants around the globe have taken creative liberty with CBD oil and infused it into products ranging from smoothies and gummy worms to chocolates, ice cream, honey, and more.

One of our favorite things about CBD edibles is that they are pre-measured. For example, these watermelon gummies from Experience CBD contain 30mg of CBD oil each. That means no measuring and no worrying about taking the correct dose. Pop the desired number of chews into your mouth, and you’re good to go!

Unfortunately for many eating establishments, the use of CBD oil to make CBD edibles has come under fire recently from the Food and Drug Administration. Currently, the FDA does not inspect or approve any CBD oil products (we’ll talk more about that later!). The lack of oversight means that technically, restaurants aren’t supposed to be selling pre-made CBD edibles infused with CBD oil. Although it’s unclear how this will change in the future, with the positive transformations surrounding CBD oil we’ve seen recently, we’re optimistic that CBD edibles in restaurants will make a resurgence!

Vape Oil

If you’re into vaping, you’re in luck! Shoppers interested in adding CBD oil to their daily lives can find a variety of e-juice products that contain CBD. These specialty products are specifically designed to be heated, which produces a clean, pure CBD oil-filled vapor that is ingested directly through the lungs and into the body. Vaping CBD is an excellent choice if you already have experience with vaping. The CBD for vaping comes in a variety of flavors and pod styles as well, so there’s something for everyone! Also, people who are experiencing symptoms of nausea may benefit specifically from peppermint-flavored vape products as well as the small dose of CBD.

CBD Lotion

The next time you have a muscle or joint ache, you can reach for CBD oil-infused lotion rather than Icy Hot! Creams, lotions, salves, and sprays mixed with CBD oil offer users targeted relief in specific areas. These items can help with menstrual cramps, backaches, or even sore muscles caused by a strenuous workout.

As well as offering joint and muscle pain relief, CBD lotions are a great addition to your general skincare routine. The added CBD helps to increase circulation, which can fight cellulite, reduce the appearance of varicose veins, and aid skin in looking bright and nourished.

CBD Skin Care

CBD lotion barely touches the surface of the magnitude of CBD beauty products offered on the market. Since CBD is excellent for circulation and moisturizing, it makes a great addition to lip balms and chapsticks. You can also find it in products geared towards acne and scarring, including Moon Mother’s CBD Glow Skin Serum. Made specifically for use on your face, this features 250mg of CBD, as well as a nourishing and healing blend of oils and herbs. For parents looking to help their teens create a healthier skincare routine or treat acne marks and scars, these can be great items to invest in!

CBD Capsules

Another way to easily add CBD oil into your daily routine is through the use of CBD oil capsules or pills. One of the more popular ailments that CBD is known to treat is insomnia. Taking a small dose of CBD before bed, as opposed to turning to prescription medications, is not only a more natural alternative, it’s a less addictive one as well. Like with CBD edibles, capsules and pills offer users the ability to ingest a specific amount of CBD oil without having to worry about incorrect measurements. They’re also great for traveling because they’re small, discreet, and can be easily transported in your purse or carry-on.

CBD Suppository

For people who struggle with endometriosis and other vaginal or reproductive system discomfort, relief can come in the form of CBD products. One prominent example is CBD oil-infused suppositories. These can be used for both intimacy-related relief as well as for general pelvic pain. As we mentioned earlier, THC can provide additional comfort for those suffering from chronic pain. Many companies based in states that have legalized recreational marijuana use have offered suppositories both with and without THC to give shoppers additional options for easing their pain. If you’re able to choose, we recommend trying both out to see which option best fits your needs.

CBD Bath Bombs

While even generic bath bombs will help you feel relaxed and refreshed, CBD bath bombs take your whole spa experience to a new level. CBD bath bombs are also filled with natural ingredients such as coconut oil, Epsom salts, and essential oils. The variety of essential oil scents available allows users to customize their relaxation experience based on their needs. The current Sun State Hemp options include themes such as Focus, Sensual, Calm, and Soothing, although all are sure to provide a relaxing experience.

For those who are dealing with symptoms of inflammation, CBD oil bath bombs can also be incredibly beneficial. CBD is known to reduce inflammation and pain in the body, while a nice soak in warm water can loosen tired muscles. Paired together, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a spa experience like no other.

Share Your CBD

Did you know that CBD isn’t just for people? Our four-legged friends can benefit just as much as we can from adding dog- or cat-specific CBD edibles to their diets. CBD has the same effect on dogs that it does on humans: decreasing anxiety, reducing inflammation, and improving their general well-being. If your pet suffers from storm-induced nervousness or has trouble with separation anxiety, giving them a few CBD edibles treats can be just what they need to take the edge off. If you’re looking to incorporate CBD into your pet’s life, we suggest starting with something like Bacon Strips from CBDrool. Each treat includes 10mg of CBD, which is perfect for getting a feel for how your dog will respond to the extract. As always, be sure to base the dosage on their weight, and consider any medical conditions!

Read the Law

In addition to knowing what’s in your CBD products, it’s also essential to know and understand how the law in your state is applied. While CBD made from hemp is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, individual states have yet to follow through on creating their independent legislation on how to properly enforce the law locally.

Read the Labels

As with most things in life, it’s essential to be thorough. When it comes to what you eat, drink, or apply, that means taking the necessary steps to know what you’re putting into your body. As we mentioned earlier, CBD isn’t currently regulated or tested by the FDA, meaning that products, including CBD edibles, can claim to have a certain amount of CBD oil in them, but have less, or more.

When shopping for CBD products, especially CBD oil or CBD edibles, it’s important to ensure you’re doing your research!
